Marc and Susan Lundgren-Tickle possess an intuitive and almost magical ability to create amazing new dimensions within their kaleidoscopes, They seem to transcend the ordinary, resonating with an amazing color, light, and texture all their own, Most of their designs are derived from the principles of sacred geometry. They use this science to design both the image and the exterior of their scopes, thus preserving an element of continuity to the whole piece.

Marc stumbled into the wonderful world of kaleidoscopes in 1992 when he was asked to proofread a small book on how to make simple kaleidoscopes. As he read it, and then saw a marvelous collection of scopes, it occurred to him that he might be able to make one. "Quite honestly," he relates, "the very next day I had a passion for them, and I could not stop making them. With each one I would try to improve from the last. Since then I have developed a keen interest in the aesthetic combinations and subtle influences of using true geometric principles and pure love of form expressed through creative design."

But the high point for Marc was meeting Susan at a glass studio in North Carolina where he had his studio space. "Shortly thereafter my work became our work," he says with pride. "She is a joy to be around, and I am so proud of her painting - it is stunning." The adventurous couple moved to Marc's native England and were married there. All the while their experiments with mirrors proved fruitful, and their scopes continue to win praise and awards.

"I am totally convinced that the images that can be created with mirrors, light, and the inclusion of color are infinite," Marc acknowledges. "I genuinely believe that to be true. Every time I go into the studio to experiment, I am so amazed to discover the wonders that can be created. I love it."

In 2002, in a significant cultural exchange, Marc and Susan were invited to Japan as representatives of the US to join outstanding Japanese artists, students, and professors in sharing their perspectives on the exciting momentum of where the world of kaleidoscopes is now and where it is headed.
